My Story... [Home]
So here's how it all started.
What better place to begin a story like this than the part where it all began, the beginning? One day, I was sitting on my arse when my mum came up to me and said, "How would you like to go on exchange in Australia for a year, Marty?" Not knowing what to say, I replied with a simple "Meh."
So seven months later I was hopping on one of the many planes I would be taking to the Cook Islands. We had decided to go there on a two week vacation before going to Sydney for a week and eventually reaching our final dastination Mossman, Queensland.

The weather is here, wish you were beautiful.

So what can be said about Rarotonga, the biggest of the many Cook Islands? Well, for the Social teachers out there, I believe the Cooks are actually a part of New Zealand, scattered off to the side. I think this because they use New Zealand money... So that would make sence right? The island was tiny in size and had two busses running on it. One clockwise, and the other counter-clockwise. You could catch either one, because either way, you'd get where you wanted to go in about ten minutes since the island's so small. There is one main town there, which is pretty pathetic. Nice shopping though. But a word of advice, never buy anything electronic from the cooks. They just got a brand new video game system... THE SONY PLAYSTATION! Only $500!!!!! Now say you want a DVD player? Got $5000? Because you'll need it for a BASE model player from a no name brand.

Insert Moby soundtrack here.

Here's the nice waterfall I liked to spend most of my time at. You can climb up that rock on the right and jump into the water. You must, however be brave because the water is FREEZING and the mozzies will all gather up and bite you at the same time. You will not leave the place without a billion mosquito bites, trust me.

All is not well in the land of narnia.

But just as you start to think that you are in the most beautiful place on earth, reality kicks in. What the locals call "liquid sunshine". Of the 18 days we were there, it rained 12. And in the Cooks, when it rains, it REALLY rains. None of that little drisley stuff we get at home. But it didn't matter though, because it was still warm out, so you could still swim in the pool if you wanted. Just remember to leave your towel under something. Otherwise it's pretty pointless.

Anyone seen the rest of my shoulder?
|
Ahem. Let me get this across. When in Rarotonga, wear sunscreen. If you're in the pool, wear sunscreen. In the shade, wear sunscreen. The same for when it's cloudy, foggy or raining. Do not go out for five minutes without sunscreen or this will happen to you. And don't even think about nude tanning... I can't show you those pictures :P
And so after two weeks in the Cooks, and a while in Sydney, I ended up where I currently am. Mossman. My shoulders are healed, and the sun's not so bad here. It's actually quite a nice place. Too bad it's so far away from home...

I used my Elura digital Camcorder to take all these pics.
